Here it is, my most special piece. I’ve been genuinely excited to list this one, as I still can’t quite believe I managed to get hold of it. This 1970s Ludwig Black Beauty No.453 was discovered in a shipping container, tucked away inside a Hardcase that was stacked in the middle of a Ludwig CS Custom (if you can believe it).
When I first opened it up, it was fitted with a Remo Ebony Ambassador — which honestly made me laugh, as it felt criminal to have a head like that on a drum of this calibre. I instantly recognised it as a ‘70s Black Beauty Super Sensitive, but I’d never seen one with these gorgeous floral engravings before. It’s seriously beautiful in person — the detail is just stunning.
This drum has been fully restored and checked over, and everything works exactly as it should. The Super Sensitive throw-off mechanism operates smoothly, the internal dampener functions perfectly, and it’s fitted with brand-new batter and snare-side heads.
I know this is a lot of money for a snare drum, but these are incredibly rare and sought after. Whether it ends up as a collector’s centrepiece or a gigging workhorse, this snare will not disappoint.

Condition:
This snare is in very good condition overall for a 1970s example. The black nickel shell shows light patina and minor cosmetic wear throughout, but remains beautifully preserved with crisp engraving and fully functional hardware. There are some marks around the top and bottom edges of the shell where heads have sat over the years but these are not visible when the drum is assembled. The interior plating is clean with some natural oxidation, and all original parts are present and operating smoothly.
